Redfish Rodeo 2023 -

On August 12, 2023, Sound Side Outfitters and Eastern Current hosted the First Annual Redfish Rodeo. The tournament was a FLY ONLY tournament and anglers were allowed to fish anywhere in the state of North Carolina inside the line of demarcation. This was a catch, photo, release style tournament hosted throughout the iAngler App. We had a total of 19 teams compete for bragging rights for first place.

Early on, fish were being submitted and the leaderboard started shifting. It wasn’t until lunch time that there was a battle between first and second place. Teams kept flip flopping as fish were being submitted and boy was it intense there for a bit! At the end of the day, the podium stood with 106” taking fist place, 99” taking second and 44” taking third place. We also had the largest fish at 28.5” and smallest to win “King of the Dinks” at 19” and the “Leopard Award” went to the fish with the most spots at four spots on a single fish.

Congratulations to all of the anglers who podiumed and a HUGE thank you to everyone who participated. We’ve got a few small but fun changes for our next tournament. We’ll be keeping everyone updated as we decide on our next dates for the Redfish Rodeo 2024. Could you be the one to take home bragging rights? Oh yeah.. and a HUGE load of prizes.

Thank you to all of our sponsors who helped make this event possible. We couldn’t do it without you!

Recap -Skiffapalooza

Seem be a little behind here on the recap of Skiffapalooza… so lets get right to it!

On August 5th, the shop held what we dearly called “Skiffapalooza”. Let me explain for those of you who didn’t see the posts or attend. We cleared the parking lot, called everyone we knew with a skiff and told them to call some friends, lined some SEXY skiffs in front of the shop, then proceeded to drool over all the boats. Lots and lots of drool…

We had skiffs from East Cape Boats, Maverick, Drake Boatworks, Spear Boatworks, Gheenoe, Beavertail Skiffs and then some. New skiffs, old skiffs and some that were in-between. Guide boats, weekend warriors and all walks of life for the skiff world were present.

We had the first skiffs dropped off that morning even with the event not starting until 3pm, it seemed that folks were excited about the “show”. In total, we had 19 skiffs show up to the shop. Cold drinks were had, food was served and there were plenty of laughs and good times had.

We’re already looking forward to the next one! A few small changes will be taking place next time. We’ll be hosting a fun yet challenging casting competition for some prizes, also we’ll be doing a vote for the crowds favorite skiff for a trophy of whatever we can get our hands on. Could be an old bowling trophy from the thrift shop, but we’ll keep it a secret… maybe.

Opening Weekend

It all begins with an idea.

April 22, 2023. The day it all “officially” started.

What came to be from countless hours on brainstorming, research and talking shop with friends and family, we bring you Sound Side Outfitters.

Opening weekend was more than we could have ever expected it to be. Before the doors even opened up, there was a crown gathered in the parking lot. People came from all over the state to visit and show their support of the areas latest and greatest fly shop. A fridge full of cold drinks, plenty of fish tales and an abundance of laughs was what the day had in store. We cannot say thank you enough from the outpour of well wishes and high fives we received. We’re here to stay and here’s to make our make on the saltwater fly fishing community.

THANK YOU from he bottom of our hearts.
